Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support and Wellbeing

Our School Values

Welcome to the fourth term, our last one for the year. As we edge closer to the finish line, I am proud of how the CMS staff, students, families, and other stakeholders have worked as a team. We have faced challenges as a team. We have succeeded as a team.

It is important that we all cross the finish line and not leave anyone behind. To do this, reflecting on and consistently upholding our school values will help us. A common goal and shared values allow everyone to pass the line. Let me indulge you in the CMS values this term, unpacking them, so we have a common understanding of what they are.

Our classroom and class routines

In our classrooms, our teachers will be working on classroom entry and exit routines. We will also continue encouraging our students to maintain a high quality of tidiness for school. The school will continue implementing the no phone /device policy with students and the out-of-class pass system. All these policies are to create a safe learning environment and promote the well-being of our students. I have no doubt we will have the support of the CMS community.

Signing students out early

The school kindly requests that parents sign students out when they pick them up early (before 3.00 pm). We encourage parents not to call students to meet them in the car park. As we have a duty of care, the students must be appropriately handed over to an adult who will be responsible for care.

School Nutrition and Healthy Eating

This is a kind reminder to the CMS community that we follow the NT Government School Nutrition and Healthy Eating Policy. In this regard, we ask families not to bring unhealthy takeaway food and drinks into the school. We encourage families to bring healthier options if they are to bring food for their young person. Students will be asked to put away their food if it is not in line with the healthy nutrition policy, and it receive it back after school hours. For more information, please click on the link below.

Best wishes,

Year 9

Sciences

We've started our unit on light and sound energy, building onto the energy work they did last year.

Students have spent time investigating common sound and light phenomena, added to their existing knowledge this last week with the scientific language around reflection, the bouncing of light (and sound).

Coming up next - refraction, the bending of light.

Home Economics

Year 9 students made Beef Sliders with Slaw on a soft Potato Bun and looked at how to present their food so that it is visually appealing, and it certainly looks delicious!

VET Conservation & Land Management

We've started our last term with a focus on the unit "Recognise and Report Plants or Animals" Students should be proud of their efforts in already completing a Job Safety Analysis, Planning documents for two surveys (at Alice Springs Desert Park and Jessie Gap) and two surveys this term alone. Next week we're heading to Simpsons Gap for their first plant survey.

Our group has been using the afternoon to begin their Chemical Safety unit. So far they've learnt how to use chemical labels to find safety information and investigated different nozzle sprays.

Stars Foundation

It has been a warm welcome back and we are excited for a jam packed Term 4!

Our Year 7s picked up where they left in Term 3 with their last HIIT session with Steve from G Training. It was awesome to see the girls really pushing through each station during the 45 minute session and encouraging each other every step of the way.

Year 8 and 9 Stars students have begun this term with Katie Thompson and the Girls on Country group, creating a beautiful mural for the new Purple House facility opposite Milner Meats (Northside). The aim of this mural is to create a calm and comfortable atmosphere for their clients, and to remind them to “Stay Strong on Country!” We would really like to thank Katie Thompson for involving us in such an awesome initiative, and we are very excited for you all to see the finished product.

With more exciting news, in the week to come we are taking a group of students to Tennant Creek to participate in a Stars Oz Tag Carnival! This will be our first out-of-town camp since COVID has restricted us, and a great opportunity to connect with our fellow Stars academies in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. This will be followed by the CMS Swimming Carnival on Friday (Oct 28th) and our much-loved World Teachers Day High Tea on Friday, Nov 4th to show appreciation to our teaching staff, and the great work they do for all CMS students.

Lastly, Stars staff have been spending time with Sadadeen Primary School, Gillen Primary School and Bradshaw Primary School! During these visits we hope to strengthen the relationship and transition

Between primary and middle school, whether students attend CMS or not, and to also inform students on what the Stars program is and about the inclusive atmosphere that we aim to create.

Clontarf Corner

First week back and the boys are straight into our activities. During morning training the boys brushed up on their footy skills, they also did so well at getting ready for an early start. Also during the week we held AFL handball in the gym. The game was played with great sportsmanship and team spirit. Awesome start of the term fellas!

Students were inspired by Simon's love of maths and impressed with Simon's ability to recite Pi to 100 decimal places! Students were able to share their own love of numbers, solve the world great chocolate debate using math, and created and learnt about trihexaflexagrams.
